Cherish Furniture Headquarters
2010 Goyang, Korea
Total Floor Area
The Headquater office building of CHERISH FURNITURE, which was also intended to be used as an exhibition hall, was to be located at Hwajeon-dong, Goyang, the rural area in proximity to the center of the city.
Since the building should hold both exhibition and working space, it was important that one does not interrupt the other, while closely being connected. Due to some legal restrictions and requirements, it was forced to divide the site into two blocks. Contrapositioning this site condition, we conceived the space, created by two blocks as “in-between” transitorial space, in which various outdoor activities such as receiving guests, are held. Furthermore, since the furniture trend/fashion is likely to be changed continuously, the building was conceived as an “timeless” entity, undeterred by flow of time and trend. Therefore, ceramic tile is used due to its particular surface texture and availability of various patterned scale, as main exterior finishing material, while some of the wooden panel is used to accentuate some details. It resulted in such sophisticated image of compact primitive object thanks to its outstanding surface texture.
